HIStalk Rumor Report and Contest

posted 04/08/2005
HIStalk
HIStalk needs your rumors! Rumors are the favorite type of HIStalk content. What you know about vendors, products, and organizations may be highly interesting to your fellow HIStalk readers.

How to contribute your rumors
  1. Use the HIStalk Rumor Report form to your lower right.
  2. Choose an alias so that readers can recognize the name from one issue to the next, but not one that identifies you. Also include a codeword that you'll use consistently so I'll know it's really you submitting and not someone else using your alias.
  3. If your rumor refers to something already available online, enter the link.
  4. Type in (or cut and paste ) your rumor into the News or Rumor field.
  5. Click OK. Your rumor is e-mailed directly to HIStalk.
Note: you are not identified when you submit your rumor, so your anonymity is guaranteed. There is no risk to you!

What kinds of rumors interest HIStalk readers?
  1. Executive changes at vendors or healthcare organizations.
  2. Notable results (good or bad) in high-profile software implementations.
  3. Layoffs at vendors or in the IT departments of healthcare organizations.
  4. Change in vendor strategy.
  5. Anything about high-profile people in the HIT industry.
  6. Stories involving pay, benefits, or behavior of executives in any part of the industry.
  7. Information about HIMSS, other industry organizations, and HIT-related government activities.
How does the rumor contest work?

I keep a worksheet of your alias, the rumor you submitted, and the date you submitted it. Since rumors aren't usually immediately confirmable because events haven't happened yet, I'll "score" the rumor if and when it comes true. I use a 10-point scale for each of three criteria: how broad the audience of interest is for the rumor, how important the rumor will be if true, and how much a surprise the rumor is. Each rumor can therefore score 30 points maximum.

Each time you submit a rumor using the same Name or Alias, I add that to your list of contributions. Your running score is the sum of your rumor points to date.

I'll run a list of top-scoring Rumor Reports regularly and may provide a prize once we see how it all works out.

Thank you for your rumor contributions!
