Kodak Sells Healthcare Business to Canadian Conglomerate

posted 01/10/2007
Misys
Kodak announced this morning that it will sell its Health Group to Onex Healthcare Holdings for $2.55 billion, shedding its businesses involved with information technology, molecular imaging systems, and medical and dental imaging. Onex will get manufacturing facilities; a Rochester, NY office building, and 8,100 employees.

Kodak Health Group had revenue of $2.54 billion in the past twelve months.

Toronto-based Onex is a conglomerate with business lines in healthcare, movie distribution, electronics manufacturing, aircraft construction, cosmetics, and outsourcing.

Does anyone know if this was this an LBO?

1x Revenue - such a deal! Is Kodak's business that bad?

Lo and behold HIStalk must have caused Kodak to announce the purchase sooner than later this month. No, this was mostly likely a straight purchase and not an LBO. Philips, being an saqfe environment focused company, may not have even made an offer because of the possible liability for chemicals released into waste water systems by healthcare institutions.

Not all that surprising. Seems like Kodak has been in and out of healthcare a number of times as I recall. I'm not sure they really know what business they really ARE in - just that film is going south.

My sympathy to both Canada and Kodak. Moving on. Topic? Best Gold Sponsor Ad on the HISTalk Blog. My vote: eScription Candidly, eliminated: Healthcaregrowth because their graph looks like a cure for erectile dysfunction. Hayes is out because they use the word "leverage". Novo is out for using the phrase "The future of Healthcare Exchange.." Good grief...does exchange mean RHIO? Nothing really bad about enovateIT, escription was just better in my opinion.
