Mr. HIStalk
HIStalk came of age in 2004. Readership
was way up, I did the first CEO interview, and readers started sharing ideas
and feedback. Some of the editorials were classics, others kind of lame in my
opinion (and I'll tell you which ones are which.)
As I put together the 2004 Yearbook, it amazed me that
I had 400 pages of material. I've added my personal comments about the articles,
shared some information never before revealed (such as the e-mails I got from folks I'd interviewed, including some who are publicity-averse) and included some background on how some of the stories came about.
Just in case you've wondered what it looks like from my side of
the HIStalk curtain, the Yearbook has screen shots of HIStalk's
maintenance functions, a view of the statistics screen that you can't see as
a reader, and even a look at how
the Rumor Report forms come to me.
The articles contain everything from
hot news to editorials, idiotic lawsuits, and reader rumors. You'll read about those times where
I was certain I'd get sued over controversial material. I'll tell you where,
on a couple of occasions, I wrote about my own employer while claiming it was
an unnamed hospital. I've even included all of the pictures from HIStalk 2004
(for you Anna Gitlin fans, of course.)
Warning: this is a lot of reading.
Those 400 pages don't have much white space or fluff. If you're new to the
industry or to HIStalk, you can learn a lot about companies, products, and the
HIT business from the book. You'll be entertained along the way, of course,
with the usual smorgasbord of rumors, cynicism, and reader feedback.
I'm
proud of HIStalk Yearbook 2004. Your support, both in reading HIStalk and buying
products like the Yearbook, is invaluable to me. My #1 goal has always been
to make you as well-informed about the industry as I can, giving you a better
chance of success in your chosen career. If you choose to buy the Yearbook,
I'd like to thank you for that support.
