Goal Reached!

Thank You

HIStalk Readers'
Donations Exceed $10,000 Goal

Thanks to the exceedingly generous donations of HIStalk readers from all over the country, both individuals and companies alike, we have exceeded our ambitious goal of raising $10,000 for Sumter Regional Hospital. Please give yourself a round of applause for opening up your hearts and wallets in mobilizing on behalf of this little hospital and its community.

I don't think many bloggers (especially anonymous ones) are lucky enough to have readers who are so willing to support such worthy causes. Like I've always said, healthcare has the best people anywhere. I'm proud to be associated with every one of you. You should feel great about what you've done.

I didn't mention it, but I got word that MEDITECH and its employees are providing financial and operational support to the hospital, too. President and COO Howard Messing e-mailed me his support. "The effort you are making to raise money for Sumter is wonderful ... glad to see it. We're pretty close to our customers, and have obviously benefited financially from them in the good times, so it is only natural that we would  help them during the bad times. What I find encouraging is the number of people who have no vested interest in the relationship with them who are stepping up to to contribute."

I also received an offer to provide the hospital with a substantial amount of information systems and have made those introductions.

From Marcus Johnson of Sumter Regional Hospital: "The majority of the donations will go to our rebuilding fund, as well aiding our employees who suffered losses due to the storm. FEMA has estimated us having more than $100 million in damages, and we have only $90 million in insurance money so we do have a definite need. Again, thanks so much for you and your readers' assistance."

Company affiliation is included if indicated by e-mail address. Amounts are included only to allow donors to verify that their donation was received and sent to the hospital. Thank you to all donors. Your contribution will help Americus, Georgia get its hospital back.

Hello,

I would like to thank each and every one of you for all that you have done. I echo Tim's sentiments about healthcare people being the best! I have been a fortunate witness to the generosity that exists in the healthcare community of late. It truly is encouraging.

We do appreciate your support!

Sincerely, Mike Cottle Director of I.T. Sumter Regional Hospital

Re MEDITECH C/S vs magic: haven't gone though a switch but have used both extensively; as an ER doc my main use is searching the CDR for past medical info and I much prefer magic over C/S. magic is faster and much less confusing to use. The only two people I know who have used both (CNO and another nurse who does compliance/ COO type work) both think magic is easier to use as well
